Summary/Abstract: The Institute of Physics and Nuclear engineering “Horia Hulubei” and the Instituit of earth physiques from Magurele in collaboration with the National Foundation for Art and Science and Vasile Goldis University from Arad had the idea to celebrate together Ioan Slavici that this year celebrated 160 years since he was born (1848), and 83 years from his death (1925). A nice moral gesture, a remarkable cultural act, as a proof that the mass-media and politics united did not made disappear in us the respect for the spiritual values and in general the appreciation for our traditions. Why is it that in Magurele and in the Institute of Earth Physiques? What does the great Slavici, how Maiorescu used to call him, with atomic physique and earthquakes? Here at Magurele, the transilvanian Slavici is named in 1894, director of studies at the “Ion Otetelesanu” institute that he runs until 1908, when he is dismissed the reasons are not quite clear. He crossed the mountains in 1890 after being incarcerated by the Hungarian authorities at Vac (1888-1889) for his national opinions. His stay at Magurele was a productive one for him and his students. He teaches Roumanian, history and geography , he puts together school textbooks, he publishes the”Vatra” magazine (1894-1896) together with I.L Caragiale ( here he starts to publish a serial of his masterpiece the novel “Mara”), he writes articles in favor of the national ideas and he continues writing fiction literature .
