Summary/Abstract: Saint Basil the Great’s correspondence is one of the richest, most diverse and valuable from the patristic period of the Church. His epistles, 366 of them, approach various themes, starting with the dogmatic, following with the canon and pastoral and finishing with the social-philanthropical ones. To the last mentioned theme, Saint Basil dedicates 58 letters, which were briefly resumed, as examples, in this study. And if Saint Basil has remained in the living conscience of the Church with the name “the Great”, this was, without any doubt, firs and foremost, because of his philanthropical work and thinking.
