Summary/Abstract: The paper presents two books: "Intentions in the Experience of Meaning" by Raymond W. Gibbs, Jr. and "Intentions: Negotiated, Contested, and Ignored" by Arabella Lyon. Both authors analyse the problem of communicative intention, Gibbs from the psycholinguistic and Lyon from the philosophical and rhetorical points of view. The review considers primarily the books’ relevance to the theory of literature
