Summary/Abstract: This review focuses on Marta Tomczok’s collection of essays, which illustrates with numerous examples not only who attempts to appropriate the Holocaust and its aftermath in contemporary popular culture, but also how and why this is done. According to Tomczok, around 2010 we experienced a significant cultural change affecting our reception of the Holocaust: it ceased to be valuable yet untouchable legacy (“deposit”) and turned into capital (“commodity”), which can be ideologically, politically, economically, pedagogically, or ludically exploited. The reviewed work both demonstrates its author’s engagement in the discussed matters, and, at the same time, shows its innovative and inspiring potential.
