Summary/Abstract: The present contribution is intended as a survey of the major lexico-morphological peculiarities of Romanian verbs and nouns, most likely to set our mother tongue off as a self-assertive linguistic entity against the Romano-Germanic European background. The 15 idiosyncrasies submitted to the reader‟s attention help chart Romanian‟s slip-aways from the Neo-Latin mainstream and, as a natural concomitant thereof, its quite frequent “mix-ins” with members of the Germanic family.
