From promotion of cultural and academic exchanges to cultural diplomacy in the activities of Polish foreign service

Summary/Abstract: It was towards the close of the 1990s, prior to Poland’s accession to the EU, that the notion of “cultural diplomacy” first appeared in documents of the Polish foreign service in the context of the Polish’s state promotion abroad. The whole set of measures to build a new model of Poland’s culture-focused promotion was referred to as a “reform of cultural diplomacy”. The presentation of Polish culture was seen as a means to pursue the lines of foreign policy set by the state.
