Summary/Abstract: The article discusses and reviews major armed conflicts of 2013. The authors analyze armed conflicts as well as organized violence and the cases of one-sided violence that had the largest impact on international security environment. As far as the Middle East is concerned, particular attention is paid to the civil war in Syria and the wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq. The authors focus on four African conflicts: the South Sudanese civil war, the armed conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and two armed conflicts with French intervention – in the Central African Republic and the Republic of Mali. The article also briefly reviews ongoing conflict in Burma, and discusses the peace process in Colombia. The authors analyze the dynamics of the armed conflicts of 2013, their character and the responses of the international community.
