Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the global and European demand and supply trends in the oil and gas market in the context of supply disruptions, and of the debate on climate change. In the first part, it focuses on global demand-supply trends, characterizes oil and gas-supply disruptions resulting from armed conflicts and political instability in MENA, and analyzes their consequences for the market. It then presents recent developments in the LNG market, as well as gas trade with Russia and Central Asian producers. Special attention is paid to the increasing role of Chinese investments in Central Asia. The second part of the article is devoted to an analysis of energy and climate issues – including the COP organized in Warsaw, and Poland’s attitudes towards the global and European regime on climate changes. Finally, the article reviews recent energy policy developments in Poland, and the most important events of 2013 in the energy market as far as Poland’s and EU’s energy security are concerned.
