Summary/Abstract: The article deals with a particular kind of songs — pripevki, which are a form of telling one's fate, especially with regards to love and marriage. In the working-bee, as a traditionally regulated place for premarital communication between young people of both sexes, the pripevki develop actively and become an inde¬pendent folk song genre. Working-bee pripevki are viewed in their connection to girls' passage into the status of being marriageable, as a main social function of the ritual. Two main types are defined, according to their poetic and musical content. The author looks for the historical understanding of humor in this type of songs.
