The Song in the Peperuda Ritual

Summary/Abstract: The article tries to outline the main musical and verbal characteristics of the song in the Peperuda ritual, as well as the peculiarities of the dance, which is a part of the ritual action, in order to explain their functions in the ritual unity. It follows the main motifs of the verbal text, looking for the regional typology of variants from different parts of the country. The musical analysis defines the characteristic ambitus, as well as the typical melodic patterns, formal features and measures. The author looks for the symbolism of the dance movements - in the solo play of the character Peperuda and in the horo chain dance of the ritual group.
