Summary/Abstract: The theological conception about the person in the religious thinking of Archimandrite Sophrony can be sumed up in this way: the concept of hypostase is associated to the idea of universality. Hypostase means the entire power of „being” of the human being, it means to be conscious that we are „one” in our being and multiple in hypostase. The human being must pine for the effective realisation of the hypostase which he received in the Mystery of Baptism. The hypostatic principle of the human being manifests itself within the prayer for the whole Adam, for the entire world as for oneself. The inner content of the hypostase is the love who breaches the wall of the individualism; to love is to live for and in the beloved whose life becomes our life. We are an hypostase only when we feel the pains and the sufferings of the people, as Jesus felt. The Ghetsimani prayer is the hypostase – prayer because through it we become an hypostase, that is, we bear in our being in the most perfect way the whole humankind just as Jesus did. This association of the idea of universal to the hypostase is almost unprecedented in the debates about the person. According to the theological thinking of Archimandrite Sophrony the dignity of the person lies in its beauty and being. The universal character of an christian consists of a conscience identical to the one of Jesus Christ Who beares in Him the whole world.
