Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on the differential impact of the types of conflicts covered in the news. The experiment discussed here examines the effects of conflict-oriented news frames on political trust over which previous studies have provided inconsistent findings. Findings do not support a general negative impact of conflict-oriented frames but demonstrate a cumulative effect of intrusiveness and incivility. While conflicts about unobtrusive topics framed in a civilized manner do not have a negative impact on political trust, conflicts related to obtrusive topics framed in an uncivil manner significantly contribute to the decrease of political trust.
