Summary/Abstract: The article suggests that neither the understanding of the breakdown of Yugoslavia nor the process of transition in Serbia is possible without analyzing the local-global interaction. In order to justify this hypothesis the article de-picts the political transition in countries that belong to the (semi)periphery of South Asia and Latin America, i. e. to non European regions. The presentation is based, above all, on the works of W. Robinson, and it shows that the local-global interaction, paticulary when the small and weak countries are concer-ned, evolves along similar lines, in spite of the social, political and temporal differences.
