Summary/Abstract: The relationship between the Romanian Principalities and Mount Athos was maintained not only by the direct contributions of the prices and boyars, but also by the infl uence of the Romanian monks who lived there for several centuries, prayed and demonstrated scholarly interests. One must also acknowledge the continuous presence in the Romanian territory of the Athonite monks who came here either to request donations from the Romanian prices or to settle in the Romanian monasteries, as life in the Principalities was better. This study mentions only the most important monks: St. George of Cernica, Grigorie Dascălul, Filotei sin Agăi Jipei, Irinarh of Horaiţa, Antipa of Calapodeşti, Ioan Comnen, Nicolae Cercel, Neofi t Kavsokalivitul, Chesarie Daponte, Joachim of Acarnania, Nikodemos the Hagiorite, etc. They have ensured an important infl uence of Mount Athos in our territories; this infl uence was established via these spiritual people and their works and direct connections with a series of contemporary spiritual fi gures from home. The author also refers to the establishment of the fi rst permanent Romanian communities. The study comprises an alphabetical index of the dedicated monasteries on Mount Athos. Over the centuries, the cultural exchange between the Greek and the Romanian Orthodox communities were encouraged by their meeting on Mount Athos; this is an illustration of the positive infl uence of Mount Athos in the his-tory of the Romanian people as well as in the history of other Orthodox communities.
