Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to examine selected aspects of the higher education reforms in Poland. The author provides an overview of the changes to the Polish higher education system introduced in the last years. He presents crucial elements of the amendment to the Law on Higher Education of 2011 and higher education transition shortages. The author claims that despite major public funding spent by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for “systemic projects”, their effects were not sufficiently taken into account for initiating and implementing changes in the higher education and research system in recent years. The author puts forward the systemic solutions and recommendations. The article presents also new initiatives of bodies representing academic community. In conclusion, three possible scenarios regarding future of the higher education in Poland are indicated.
