Concept Called "University-Idea" From a Perspective of Values, Tradition and Present Times of University

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the concept of University as an idea, which was proposed by Jerzy Hausner along with the models of firm-idea or cityidea. The aim is to confront this concept with selected publications about the idea of university. Against this background, the article presents the analysis of parameters which have fundamental significance for higher education: traditions, academic values, autonomy, and institutional culture, and how they relate to governance and leadership. The author used an experimental narrative method, referring directly to fragments written by Jerzy Hausner. In the conclusion, the author explains the difference in understanding the idea of university and university-idea, giving the characteristics of the University-idea. Based on the assessment of the Polish higher education system, the author makes the statement that some universities are potentially able to introduce changes to represent the University-idea model.
