Summary/Abstract: The raids by Russian destroyers of the “Novik” class on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast during the First World War are examined in the article. The fact is stressed that their appearance marked a real revolution in the development of vessels of this type. The tactical and technical characteristics of the three series of .Noviks. incorporated in the Russian Black Sea Navy are set forth. Attention is paid. to their universality in view of their high seagoing and manoeuvring qualities and heavy armament which made the destroyers of the “Novik” class the first true multipurpose warships. On the basis of the analysed source material are stressed the causes explaining why so far in our naval history the fact was absent that the “Novik” destroyers had fulfilled, combat tasks against the Bulgarian coast. The article looks into their participation in the attacks on our Black Sea towns. Emphasis is laid on the fact that they invariably took part in all artillery strikes against Varna, Balchik and Kavarna. The counteraction by the naval aviation and the coastal artillery against the enemy raids is considered. Irrespective of the not numerous and heterogeneous forces and means at its disposal the Bulgarian Navy succeeded in repulsing the attacks of the destroyers.
