Summary/Abstract: This article deals with Moravian political subjects taking part in regional council elections held on the 5th and 6th of November 2004. The Moravian movement became strong after November 1989, primarily due to the surprising success of the Movement for Self-Governing Democracy – Association for Moravia and Silesia (HSD-SMS) in the first free parliamentary elections held in June 1990. But after parliamentary elections in 1996, when HSD-SMS failed to reach 5%, the Moravian movement was weakening and became a minor player in the Czech political system.Nowadays there are two historical Moravian political parties – the Moravian Democratic Party (MoDS) and the Movement for Self-government of Moravia and Silesia (HSMS) – that are defending rights of Moravia and part of Silesia. However, so far, these groups failed to implement their fundamental political demands in the area of territorial and administrative reorganization of the state. The new regional territorial division of the Czech Republic led to the genesis of new regionalist associations that stress regional and Moravian particularities. Both the historical Moravian parties and the new regionalist parties participated in regional council elections. This article analyzes the election results and compares the results of the first and second regional council elections.
