Non multa sed multum. Parallel Sermons in the Sermon-Collection of György Enyedi

Summary/Abstract: It is well known about György Enyedi’s sermons that they are structured and edited. We know more and more about the in only handwritten tradition existing collection, but the how and why of its stucture is still not properly revealed. It is also a fact, that during the decades of the active period of textual tradition the ideal structure of this large corpus became to fall apart. But despite the varied versions of the sermons the beginning and the ending of the texts – with taking no notice of the regular variability of the word order or synonyms – are comparable and can help in identifying unnumbered, unmarked texts. These comparative studies of the corpus can also unfold some yet unremarked disorders of the collection. I want to show in my paper three sermons which can be found in two of the codices under different numbers, connected to a fourth sermon – also existing in two variants –, which was already examined by János Káldos. This try can take us closer to understand the base of this peculiar material and can adumbrate the strategies and the methods of the copyists, also can force us again to propose the question, what is Enyedi’s own and what can be connected to the tradition and transmission.
