Summary/Abstract: The essay discusses the influence of incarceration at Terezin on its former inmates. Focusing on former Czech prisoners, Ruth Bondy sketches the most important lines. Most survivors were young, and young people adapted much better in the forced community of the ghetto. For them, memories of Terezin are almost nostalgic, because here they spent their youth and camps that came later had incomparably worse conditions. Friendships closed here last often until today. Due to the extreme experience, Terezin survivors´s lives were flexible and ready for new beginnings.
