Summary/Abstract: In the correspondence of the archbishop Theophylact of Ohrid the contrast between the brilliant capital city of Byzantium and the Bulgarian country town of Ohrid was emphasized. But the negative attitude of the Byzantine author was not necessary due to his anti-Bulgarian spirit, but to the Byzantine literary fashion by that time.
