Lifestyle as a Methodological Instrument for the Study of Stratification of Postmodern Society

Summary/Abstract: The goal of the article is to study the notion of ‘lifestyle’ in order to arrive to the conclusions on its role of methodological instrument for explanation and conceptualization of socio-structural changes in our-day societies. The approach applied to the lifestyle lies within the research field of social stratification. A detailed analysis is made of the evolution of the concepts of lifestyle. Lifestyle is structure-defining for social subjects and is among the key indicators of social-group status in postmodern society. Lifestyle acquires the characteristics describe above at a definite stage of social-historical development – in postmodern society. Postmodern society is based on a new type of social structuring, in which lifestyle plays an important and decisive role as a „key“ for understanding its peculiarities and basic changes.
