Summary/Abstract: The changes in the population distribution by households in Bulgaria, represented as a decreasing mean size of the household as a result of the modification in the marital behaviour of the population, the women's and young people's emancipation, the increasing number and proportion of one-person households of aged persons, etc., are analysed. A specific analytical method is applied for the study of various factors' contribution — age, sex, marital status, ethnic group, etc., published recently by Thomas Burch (in Bongaarts and al., Family demography. Methods and their Applications. Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1990). The results, as well as the research on the methodology, are new in the Bulgarian demographic and statistical literature.
