Summary/Abstract: The paper sets forth the main features of the metaphysics of Nae Ionescu (1890–1940), Romanian philosopher, professor at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University of Bucharest, as formulated in his last completed series of lectures on metaphysics (1936–1937). All Nae Ionescu’s lectures – not only on metaphysics, but also on logic, philosophy of religion etc. – had a profound influence on the development of figures such as Mircea Vulcănescu, Mircea Eliade, Constantin Noica or Emil Cioran. For Nae Ionescu, existence is lived experience, and being is subject. The self is a special kind of subject, able to establish a communication relationship with the object, by which experience is continually enriched. The limit of this experience is precisely the field of interest of metaphysics.
