Considerations Regarding Certain Syntactic Errors in Cantemir’s Latin

Summary/Abstract: In this article we have analysed the linguistic deviations from the classical norms, which appeared in Dimitrie Cantemir's De antiquis et hodiernis Moldaviae nominibus and Historia Moldo - Vlachica. The non-classical elements already accepted by the Neo-Latin scholars cannot be considered linguistic errors. However, in these two works there are plenty of accidental deviations from the standards of Latin, such as the anacoluthon, the use of a wrong case next to a certain preposition, the use of the infinitive in complex sentences instead of the indicative or the conjunctive, etc. These syntactic errors can be explained only by the unfinished aspect of Cantemir's works.
