Summary/Abstract: It was on a Friday that I was born (October 26 1854), a little before midnight. My first newborn cry was accompanied by the striking of a two-hundred year old clock, announcing the hour of twelve, or, as in that here still Romantic period the midwife, also probably romantic, actually the spouse of the surgeon from the nearby market-town cried out: Die Geisterstunde! ¹the witching hour.
