Summary/Abstract: In television, programming is (almost) everything. As soon as satellite dishes, remote control devices, cable TV and, then, digital platforms took control over viewing patterns, in the eighties, programming directors and managers shifted from linear programming – that was specific to generalist television stations – to niche programming. The linear programming meant a little bit of everything, mixed together based on a formula that, once recognized by the viewer, becomes a pattern.
