Summary/Abstract: When we reflect on the modern age, we are usually questioning the modern world picture (Weltbild) – Heidegger’s theme of man’s representing the world as picture.52 This process has been expanding dramatically in the post-modern and post-post-modern eras. Images confront us with brutality; they are everywhere challenging us, subjected to manipulation, censorship and destruction, because of the immense potential they possess and the capacity “to explode signification.” (Mitchell) But pictures are not mere objects, not passive objects, but “resonant objects,” they are “living images.” They possess power.
