Summary/Abstract: Puppets and dolls have been in Modernism exemplary models in the quest of artists for a new body in space. It seems that these "unconscious" bodies keep in exchange the primordial innocence of man in Paradise. Only these bodies - epiphanic signs of our pre-Lapsarian condition - also retain the ability to interpret the archetypal mythological gesture, that is, the jump as the origin of the metaphysical dance of which Plato speaks in his dialogue The Laws. The dance, according to Ionesco, is the closest one has as a trace of what lost humanity, because the dance is ritual in its essence. This article tries to unveil the exquisite dimension of puppetry and metaphysics of his body that inspired artists in Modernism.
