Summary/Abstract: The goal of the Confucius Institute at LBUS is to strenghten the bridge between Romania and China – by a wide and substantiated awarenesss of Chinese tradition and modernity – mediated by an effective intercultural communication in a global world. The Confucius Institute represents a strategic advantage for the sustainable development of LBUS in the context of a fierce academic competition in the knowledge-based society. The CIs affiliated with a Higher Education Institution have become centres of academic excellence and innovation for the university and for the community alike – with a deep interest for international cooperation – shall further promote via the Confucius Institute the fundamental principles for a sustainable development of the world: friendship, harmony, mutual understanding and peaceful interaction. The degree of internationalization of any language is primarily given by the level of economic development, the nation`s competitiveness on a global market; investment in education and research, as well as an effective promotion of cultural values (e.g. Nobel Prize, Cultural Institutes etc.).
