Summary/Abstract: Dante’s influence upon Shelley’s work is substantial not because the latter had a strong kinship with the Italian poet from the political ideas point of view but because their poetic ties are strong, both formally and deep structurally. Dante Alighieri was a model to follow because his life resembled to a certain extent that of Percy’s and because the themes of his works, although written four hundred years before Shelley, were, from a political and social view point, as if taken out from a Romantic context.
