CERTAIN DOCUMENTS BY NEAGOE BASARAB

Summary/Abstract: In this study the author publishes six internal (Wallachian) documents issued by the chancery of Neagoe Basarab, which were preserved in the archives of Simonopetra monastery of Mount Athos. The texts were originally discovered by researchers Dumitru Nastase and Florin Marinescu. Of these documents, four are unpublished, while two are known by short abstracts in the prothocols of the Mihai-Vod􀄃 monastery currently kept at the National Archives in Bucharest. The six documents are dated as follows: 1513 March 10; 1516 October 17; 1517 July 19; 1518 September 3; <1520> January 16; and 1521 May 14. Two of the documents concern the estates of Bolintin monastery, one of the oldest monastic communities in Wallachia. The other documents are princely confirmations of grants over villages.
