Summary/Abstract: “Reconciliation with the past.” We often repeat this phrase in Czech society, but what does reconciliation really mean? Accepting the past? Explaining the past? Understanding? Condemnation? Or perhaps coming to terms with the past as the phrase suggests? Forgiving? Drawing a line? If so, where and when should we draw the line? Or, God forbid, does reconciliation mean hiding the past in preselected compartments on the basis of contemporary standards so that it doesn’t haunt us, so we can “get on with it?”
