Summary/Abstract: A complex combination between co-operation and competition, the verbal interaction gives place to dissensions that the interactants must negotiate in order to be able to continue the exchange. The purpose of this paper is to focus on the mechanisms of construction of the identities of the characters in the process of management of the conflicts and the conversational negotiation in Jacques ou la soumission by Eugene Ionesco. More precisely, the paper will explore the relational network established both between the characters of the play and the roles they play, the places they have in the interaction, the sources of conflict, the course of the negotiations and their issues. At the same time, the author’s aim is to check if the various disturbances which make us pass past zones invaded by absurdity are likely to deteriorate the general frame of the conversational negotiation.
