Summary/Abstract: Urban areas are the indisputable engines of economic growth and development in Poland and in the European Union. However, unsustainable transport is becoming bigger and bigger threat for cities and agglomerations, as it lowers the quality of life as well as economic efficiency and negatively influences the environment. For this reason the Community, respecting the subsidiarity principle, undertakes a variety of actions aimed at making urban transport systems sustainable. This article presents a synthetic depiction of issues connected with the impact of integration between Poland and the European Union on creating sustainable transportation systems of Polish urban areas.
