Summary/Abstract: We do not find the confort and euphoria of a centrality at Mircea Ivănescu. This centrality lives only in the rituals of marginality and desertion, in the exile. But the existential marginality tends to be replaced with a textual centrality. There is a continuous attempt to make the ego central., but it is a simple attempt of textual centrality (always failed) and this reveals the existential failing of the centre. Mircea Ivănescu’s poems are but a permanent attempt to put the ego in a central position, to insinuate it in the texture, to ‘push’ it into the scene. It is an inconsistent ego, most of the times included in a more inconsistent plural, but a tenacious ego in its fragility and shyness, an heroic ego in its continuous defeat.
