Summary/Abstract: Considering that nowadays, court welfare officers more and more often need to deal with multi-problem families, the aim of this paper will be to identify major problems that affect families today. We decide to focus on the family as it gives the background for the processes that will determine the personality profile, attitudes, values, norms and the whole socialization. Family problems may disturb such processes and disorganize the functioning of this environment. Multi-problem families are defined as those which, during their lifecycle, have accumulated a number of problems which still persist and which they are not able to handle on their own and need some external assistance. We describe such assistance from the perspective of the court welfare officer. We present the sample used for our analysis; these are 1,200 families (guardian supervision) living in the area under the competence of the Regional Court in Warsaw. The analysis covers all guardian supervisions under way for more than 3 years, i.e. dealing with long-term problems that these families cannot solve by themselves. The first stage of the study consisted in the overview of court files in order to select specific family issues. At the next stage we have calculated the statistical distribution of each problem within the whole problem pool.
