“A big offence is to be jealous of father’s fame” On editorial enterprises of the sons of the Renaissance authors

Summary/Abstract: The centre of attention constitutes editorial activity by sons of Marcin Bielski (1495—1575), Łukasz Górnicki (1572—1603), Barłomiej Groicki (d. 1605), Jędrzej Święcicki (d. 1611) and Reinhold Heidenstein (1553—1620), who gave the manuscripts inherited from their fathers to the printing press or reissued their works. The origin of these actions, including a defense of authorship rights was presented, and the attitude of editors to father’s works was indicated. The interference of the Renaissance descendants, both in the titles, a topographic shape of works published, and in author’s texts which underwent abbreviation, amplification and substitution measures.
