Summary/Abstract: The ability to make remote and original associations is essential in the development of creative ideas. However, this is an area poorly described and explored. Therefore in this article I attempt to highlight the importance of associative processes in the generation of creative ideas. I begin by reviewing the theory which gives rise to creativity in psychology in general. I then focus on an egalitarian basis, according to which creativity is a universal feature assigned to each person. Based on my own observations I describe and analyze the importance of remote associations in the process of creative problem solving, both individually and collectively. At the end I answer the question of how creativity can be developed.
