Discourse Analysis in Germany

Summary/Abstract: Beyond the commonplace of the "overwhelming reality of linguistic (inter)action and communication", the domain of discourse analysis is indeed considered as a highly interdisciplinary area of research: its ramifications require a systematic analysis, and that is why the present paper aims at presenting the developments from the German point of view, since the 70s in the main three sub-domains i.e. discourse, conversational and dialogue analysis. An interesting issue has been the attempt as well as the real possibility to apply some research tools and relevant results in FLT, for instance, in order to define/describe communication sequences in classroom communication processes.
