Summary/Abstract: Due to the railway the man has earned independence from places and distances. A fast, cheap, safe and punctual transport of the crowds has become possible. One of the main advantages of the railway transportation was its independency of the weather conditions. In Transylvania the railway system was built in the second half of the 19th century, the date after which thousands of people got the chance to try the new way of transportation. The paper details the conditions of contemporary travelling, the etiquette, the conditions of the railway-stations, and the civilizing effects of the railway on the society of the time.
