Summary/Abstract: This article is about Hungarian historian János Majdán’s volume of studies entitled Modernizáció – vasút – társadalom (Modernization – Railway – Society). The book guides us through the history of the Hungarian railway: railway and trade transport in Eastern Hungary, railroad building historical regions, the activity of minister of transport Gábor Baross, the first railway strikes in 1904, the railway’s influences on everyday life, connection between the railway and the state border, the history of Orient Express.
