Summary/Abstract: This paper, set in a theoretical framework of Cognitive Linguistics and Criti- cal Discourse Analysis, deals with the MARRIAGE metaphor, which marked the po- litical discourse in Serbia in the period of the formation of the post-election coalitions between the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Serbia in 2007, as well as between the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party of Serbia in 2008. The main aim of the paper is to show how metaphors may be used as a vehicle of public discourse for achieving overt or covert political objectives, and to point out a highly gendered aspect of the political discourse in Serbia, manifested through the assignment of gen- der roles to political parties in the coalition according to the traditional stereotypical traits.
