Summary/Abstract: The article studies "the Bulgarian trail" in world music: the transformation of local traditional music into a building material for the present-day global music industry. Emphasis has been laid on the collage in music, i.e. the sound texture made up of variously structured sound layers, as a formal means of expression and a technique of structuring of the musical entity; as well as a meaningful expression of the musical picture of the world in the age of electronics and in compliance with the aesthetics of postmodernism. The Bulgarian trail in world music can be detected along several lines. Examples have been discussed of the Bulgarian ethnic musical material being used by well-known foreign performers. The involvement has also been followed of Bulgarian master musicians in the world music industry. The observations based on musical examples point to the conclusion that the Bulgarian ethnic building material, when added to the global collage of music, constitutes the exoticism highly valued in world music, which otherwise rejects ethnocentricity.
