Summary/Abstract: n this article drama is analysed as a narrative text. In Lithuania the narrative methodology has not been integrated in contemporary drama theory till nowadays. The aim of the article is to reveal narratological changes of contemporary drama and to discover the integration links of drama critics and narratology. The analytical method is employed in the article. While discussing the constructional drama field narratological method has been used. Such narratology concepts as discourse, teller, diegesis and mimesis, implied author, narrative situation, the act of speaking have been used. The narratological method is combined with deconstructional ideas. The first principle of narratology allows to explore drama as a narrative text apart from genre rules. The plot (story) of drama is separated from discourse level. Narratological investigations of drama embracing the plane of content and discourse used to emphasize the importance of discourse level of drama in discovering the peculiarities of drama field. In drama the clear limit between mimesis (showing) and diegesis (telling) is disappearing, the representational way of depicting is becoming weaker. Some diegesis strategies are used in contemporary Lithuanian drama of M.Ivaškevičius and S.Parulskis. The role of the teller and the narrative focus are important in dramas of K.Ostrauskas, T.Šinkariukas. The “act of speaking” is another important point of narrative principles in drama. The typology and execution of illocutive-perlocutive drama acts of speaking in the context of theatre are of a purely interpretational character, as the dependence of acts of speaking on the non-linguistic theatrical expression (gestures, intonation, mimics and others) creates inexhaustible and multivocal situations of realization and perception. The language of drama is not simply a means of representation of already existing realities and meanings. Language by its performance does something and creates new meanings and realities. It is a completely new understanding of the functions of drama language and action in drama. Narratology has opened new perspective in contemporary drama analysis. Such narratology concepts as discourse, teller, diegesis, mimesis, implied author, narrative situation, and the act of speaking are helpful in drama analysis.
