Summary/Abstract: The study of the negative emotion belongs to a series of wider research on the Romanian space discourse and aims at disclosing the rhetorical devices used in the written press envisaged as an active participant in the (re)creation and/or education of the citizens’ conscience. Starting from a corpus excerpted from the Romanian daily newspaper Gândul (Engl. The Thought), we showed that, in the case of the Romanian journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu, the linguistic expression of the negative emotion is a means to transfer the journalist’s opinion, functioning as an indirect invitation to critical judgment, to social action and engagement.
