Summary/Abstract: The present paper focuses on the interweaving of themes and rhemes at the discoursal level. Daneš (1974) termed this kind of concatenation thematic progression and identified four basic classes; these will be supplemented with several others. The kinds of thematic and rhematic progression encountered in 84 written advertisements, classified according to their interpersonal function, will be then studied.
