Summary/Abstract: The article deals with J. Girnius’ interpretation of the relationship between human beings and technology. The actuality of this interpretation in the cultural context of the epoch of late capitalism and postindustrial production considered. In the first part of the article, the situation of modern equipment and contemporary technologies in the history of technology is discussed. The second part draws on the relationship between technology and science, emerging as a contemporary paradigm. In the third part, the problem of the relationship between technology and (post)industrial production is considered. The forth part concerns the importance of human responsibility with respect to technology. The author comes to the conclusion that even if technology as such is neutral, humankind, using it unabstemiously and unreasonably, can suffer global economic and ecological catastrophes.
