The Development of Trade between ASEAN Countries in the Process of Regional Economic Integration

Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the course of economic integration of ASEAN countries under the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement. Since the Common Effective Preferential Tariff Scheme was signed in 1992, ASEAN member countries have made significant progress in lowering intra-regional tariffs. The article analyses the volume and structure of merchandise produced in ASEAN countries and also attempts to determine whether the volume and rate of growth of intra-regional trade have remained at low levels.
