Summary/Abstract: This paper studies some of the main utilisations of the Romanian adverb mai (< lat. magis) in connection with his translation into French. In the most interesting cases, mai is in a state of desemantisation (subduction), and has a semantic action upon the verb (aspect, modality, expression of speaker’s attitude). In these cases, mai cannot be translated by a specific word and the research of translation must be reported on the verb.
